Johor Premium Outlet - George & Dragon Cafe

HelloomySunshineess!!

Last week me and boyfie finally have some We-time and we decided to check out on the Johor Pemium Outlet. This was the first time we visited there. It is located at Indahpura, Kulaijaya, about 30km from Johor Bahru Town. We had our hi-tea at George & Dragon cafe and I got a new pants for PRP at G2000 ^_^
There are a lot of branded shops selling off-seasons items at low prices but you will need to be patience to find what you need and what is suitable for you.

Now there are also Weekly Specials at George & Dragon of Johor Premium Outlet Branch!
From Mon to Fri (except Public Holidays) , George and Dragon Cafe has a special set lunch for only RM29.80++ per person from 12pm to 2.30pm. Afternoon tea is served from 2.30pm to 6pm for only RM17++ per person!!

We ordered two Hi-tea set with coffee and tea respectively. The salmon sandwiches was good, scone was just alright. The atmosphere and services were really good =D

[Provisionally Registered Pharmacist] - Batu Pahat

Hellooo! Sunshiniesss!!

I'm back home again after 4 days!! Last night I spent about 3 hours preparing for the assessment on counselling skills for patients on inhalers, insulin pens, warfarin usage etc. until about 12am midnight. Suddenly boyfie texted me on the news article which announced 26th June 2014 as a public holiday after Johor Darul Takzim FC (JDT) were crowned 2014 Malaysia Super League Champions. I was like Hoorayy!! Is tomorrow really a public holiday? I was so excited to come home!! Even though it was announced in the midnight and we couldn't be sure of it but I was still super excited and I woke up twice at 3am and 4am just to see if it is morning already so I can be home!
**Haha, YEAH! I'm --THAT-- HOMESICK**!

I was wondering when will we receive the letter from SPA & KKM to inform us to report duty in respective hospital. After 7 months, we finally know the answer now. I had my interview in Putrajaya Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam during end of 2013, I think it was around September/October. Final exam was in November. I received the first letter which is the Surat Lantikan (from SPA) and Sijil Pendaftaran Bersyarat (from Pharmacy Board) as Provisionally Registered Pharmacist (PRP) in February and subsequently received the second letter from Kementerian Kesihatan (MOH) to go for medical check up in April and lastly received letter from Kementerian Kesihatan to report duty on June at MOH of Johor State somewhere in the middle of May. There are 4 letters which PRP would need to receive before report duty at hospital.

1. First letter
a. Surat Lantikan from Suruhanjaya Perkhidmatan Awam
b. Sijil Pendaftaran Bersyarat from Lembaga Farmasi (Pharmacy Board)

2. Second letter
a. Surat Setuju Terima Perlantikan
b. Surat Akuan Sumpah - Do the sumpah at your local court/Mahkamah
c. Surat Aku Janji (Contoh) - The hospital will give the original copy upon reporting duty at hospital
d. Borang Pemeriksaan Doktor untuk Perlantikan ke Perkhidmatan Kerajaan - Bring this letter to go for medical check up at any Klinik Kesihatan (**go early in the morning)

3. Third letter
a. Surat Penempatan - which will inform which state of Malaysia you have been allocated

I reported duty at Ministry of Health for Johor state with another two friends on the 16th June 2014.

4. Fourth letter
a. When you report at the MOH of the state, the officer will issue another letter to inform you which hospital that you have been allocated

Luckily all of us have been posted to the same place, at least now we can have lunch together and learn together. Nevertheless, we have made a lot of new friends over here in the hospital as well.

I've started the PRP program for 2 weeks already. Things were in a total mess initially because we were worrying about accommodation, trying to adapt to the new environment, brushing up our clinical knowledge etc. I was praying really hard to be posted in Hospital Sultanah Aminah as it is the nearest training hospital to my house. Unfortunately, there was no vacancy for PRP post in the hospital. Hence, ended up three of us all being posted to Hospital Batu Pahat! I was totally unprepared to go to Batu Pahat, but I know life would be more excited and fun once you are willing to step out of your comfort zone. Thank God Batu Pahat is just 1.5 hours away from my house. I'm still able to come home often. God is in control ^_^

We reported at Ministry of Health of Johor State in the morning at 9am, subsequently reported to Pharmacy Department of the Johor State before heading to Hospital Batu Pahat. We have to report to the hospital within the same day and would need to start work on the second day. It was a super tiring day just travelling up and down! My first impression on Batu Pahat was quite good actually. Away from all the hassle in the city, Batu Pahat is a small town located approximately 88km away from Johor Bahru in the state of Johor. The first thing that caught my attention were hills, hills and hills around the hospital. The weather was so good, the sky was blue and there are birds churping around even at 4pm (I think I usually only hear birds singing in the morning not in the hot afternoon?) We reached the hospital about 3pm in the afternoon and reported in the administration office, then filled up tonnes of forms for about 2 hours.

I came back home that day to pack my stuff to BP as I did not prepared anything beforehand.

Lesson of the day: Always prepare yourself earlier while you still have time. Don't wait till last minute. ^_^

Till then.

Short Holiday! - Take a rest

Hello Sunshiniess!!

I'm finally back!! Feels so good to come back home again! I'm missing my bed sooo much!

Last week, I've left my previous job in a medicare centre and it was definitely a difficult decision. I've really enjoyed the work very much despite all the stress that I've to face everyday. I've gained some exposure on the management aspect for a private medicare centre setting and of course bits of all the other things that happen daily in the setting. I'm truthfully grateful for that. Most importantly, I've met friends and people whom I would really love to keep the relationship lasts for the rest of my life. Praise the Lord!

After my last date of work, I went up to Kuala Lumpur to look for accommodation for my sisters. I went to KL with my colleague as she was also going back to KL on the same day. It was tough as I know I would really be missing her a lot after I move on to the next chapter of my life. That night, I just wish time would pass slower so that we could stay together for a little longer. When will be the next time when we can work together again?

Watching the sunset on the way back to KL

I was only in KL for a few days so it was kinda rush to complete everything that I need to do. I called up several friends who have stayed in Sunway before to ask for their recommendations, viewed rooms after rooms, compared each units' pros and cons etc etc. Finally, we managed to come up with a final decision!! Phew! Hopefully things will all work well soon. I'm also happy to meet my bestie and spent hours and hours chatting until we fall asleep! Hahah!! **When women gets together ;)** Ahhh, haven't been spending time with her since last November! At night, me and bf went for dinner with his cousin at Setia Walk, Puchong. I'm quite impressed that they spent much effort in designing the place to be like the "Shanghai Old Street"! Lovely place with a variety of foods for you to choose!

Annndddd -- I've also met up with Angel!! Gahh! After so long since we missed each other out during graduation =/

Spending time chilling and catching up PLUS buying stuff to prepare for PRP year!! In fact, I didn't prepare anything at all until she reminds me about the shirts, pants, shoes etc etc, My GAWD!! hahah! Luckily I managed to grab everything in one day before heading back to JB! Thanks for recommending me to buy the #grandmothershoe hahah! She said that would be the most comfy shoe and it will reduce my back pain lol.

The last mission to prepare for PRP training is to get some reference books! We went to Kamal Bookstore (Opposite HKL) to get books for me! Thanks Wilson for driving me around ^_^

Say **HELLO** to PRP year! Please be good, I promise I'll work hard!

Where to get medical books? - Kuala Lumpur

Kamal Medical Bookstore
Just if you are wondering, it is a small medical bookstore but it has a massive amount of different kind of medical books. If you need any medical books or equipment or even labcoat, perhaps you may take a visit there to see whether they have what you need.

Address: No. 134, Jalan Pahang (Opposite Hospital Kuala Lumpur), 53000 Kuala Lumpur.
If you are using Waze, just search "Kamal Medical Bookstore" and you will find the place.

Coordinates3°10'21"N   101°41'55"E

If you are taking public transport, you may take monorail and alight at Chow Kit Station then walk about 5 minutes passing by the Grand Seasons Hotel, then you will see the bookstore. It is near to 7-11 shop.

Just a little catchup! PRP just started and I'm still in the midst of settling down in the new working place. Guess where I've been posted??

Good nights, everyone! Shall update soon!

[Nursing Homes] - Johor Bahru Nursing Home

Updated 20 October 2016

Hello everyone!

This post was written on April 2014 and it has been one of the most visited post. I've also realized that there are many families who are looking for nursing care for their parents or relatives. The below summarized some of the nursing homes which I've personally went to and some of them were recommendations from friends and people whom I've met. For the majority of them, there are both positive and negative feedback received for each home which I think is kind of depending on which aspects we are concerning about and it can be quite subjective as well based on individual experiences. I would suggest you to call up the nursing homes to inquire for more details first, then shortlist a few for home visits before you decide which nursing home to go to.

As I'm located in JB and recently has been travelling to Batu Pahat for work, this post will be focusing more on Johor Bahru and Batu Pahat Nursing Home. I've found a website called "Seniors Aloud" where there are more netizens discussing about nursing homes around Malaysia. You may check out for more information here or check out their homepage.

What should be my concern when looking for the most suitable nursing home?

Services provided by the home and what you need
Depending on your family member's conditions, you should first identify the type of care that you need. For example, if the family member has chronic diseases which require nursing care but with minimal supervision as he is still totally mobile and alert, or if the family member has dementia or Alzheimer's disease which requires high supervision in daily activities, or is it that you are looking for something more towards retirement village instead of nursing home. Knowing what kind of services you need is important as it allows you to have a clear direction while looking for the most suitable nursing home. Just to illustrate further, for example, if patient is on dialysis, you may want to find a nursing home which is near to the haemodialysis centre that you are following up with or one which provide transportation to the haemodialysis centre. If what you need is daily or weekly wound care services only, you may also opt for home care services which are also provided by some of the private hospitals in Johor Bahru (the charges are based on number of visits and distance of your residence from hospital). Some of the nursing home also provide acupuncture and physiotherapy treatment which may be essential for post-stroke patients.

Staff qualifications and staff to patient ratio
The main purpose to send our family members to nursing home is to enable them to receive most appropriate nursing care to aid in recovery or to provide them with a safer and more comfortable environment to stay in (as compared to staying alone at home). Thus, it is important that the staff nurses in nursing homes are qualified nurses and registered with the Malaysia Nursing Board to ensure that appropriate satisfactory nursing care will be provided for the patient. The staff to patient ratio is also important as it ensures that optimum care and attention can be given to the patient.

Nursing home environment and hygiene
A good environment must be conducive for staying and the standard of cleanliness is of utmost important. The bedroom need not be massive but must be spacious enough for individual to carry out their daily activities. You may also check out the outdoor environment and ask if residents are allow to go outdoor and if they have any daily outdoor activities. (**You know how you feels like when you stay indoor 24/7).

 Daily activities schedule
Also check out the daily activities schedule they have for elderly patients. This could be especially helpful for post-stroke patients, Parkinson Disease patients and Alzheimer's Disease patients. It also helps to reduce the chances of getting dementia and keep them occupied during their free time.

Home fee
When asking about charges, make sure you ask about deposit, registration fee, medical check-up fee, monthly home fee, diapers charges, milk feed charges, daily necessities charges, injection charges, glucose monitoring charges, ryles tube changing charges, urinary catheter changing charges and services which you need. Always let the person in charge know what you require and they should be able to provide you with the necessary information. These information may seem overwhelming especially if this is the first time that you are engaging with a nursing home. As long as you provide enough essential information to the nursing home, rest assured that they will be able to provide you with professional advice.

Emergency plan
In addition, remember to ask about their arrangement should there be any medical emergency. Is there an in-house doctor in the nursing home? Which are the nearest hospitals to the home and what is the arrangement from the home during medical emergency.

Johor Bahru Town - Places to eat

Yesterday was a holiday since Johor had changed the weekend holidays to Friday and Saturday.

Daddy brought us to It Roo Cafe for dinner. Oh yay! A must go place for everyone who come to JB. My favorite chicken chop. I really love the ambience there! and perhaps the memories that had accumulated over the years.

The signature dish would of course be the chicken chop (fried or grilled), served with black pepper sauce or mushroom sauce based on your preference. Another must-try is their It Roo fried rice. We also had a sirloin steak (very nice), Hailam Mihun, mushroom soup, fried mixed vege and my favorite drink, Root bear float.

They had also opened another branch at Taman Sutera but I have yet to go there.

Then, we headed to the corner shop next street

for the coffee and asam laksa
We also had some kuih from the opposite shop

The weather was good and there were people opening their stalls
for weekend bazaar that happens at night
Just some photos taken walking along the street after dinner

My favorite is the green colour pandan kuih ^_^

The happiest moment was when I met this cutie! hahah!

Goodbye 2013 and Welcome to 2014

2013 has just ended and we are moving into a whole new year. The last two months of 2013 was pretty crazy and tiring. Thinking back, I would say I spent these two months just chilling with friends, anxious about graduating (I know anxious doesn't help on anything but I'm just constantly worry idk why lol), settling some personal stuff and thinking about my future. Now I'm back at my hometown, finally graduated from university and in the process of getting a job. This transition period is going on well, I don't know if I can consider it as processing smoothly, but I hope it will all turns out good.

This year has been tough for me even though I've reduced a lot of workload off my shoulder. Just feel like the inner part of me is not recovering well, not back to what I used to be yet. Honestly, it is so torturing. I know nobody can understand what's going on within me or maybe they just won't believe it, and the only solution can only come out from myself. I'm glad that I've decided to take a break at the start of this year. Now one year has past, I would say things are getting better, even though it is only moving slowly. So my new year resolution? Hopefully I can open up myself more and shooooo all negative energy. Also, find back myself soon. No more escaping thoughts, no more hiding thoughts, no more running away and learn how to say NO.

Looking forward to 2014. Tomorrow is the last day of my work. I'm helping out the local bookstore near my house selling books and stationery. The auntie whom I work with is so friendly and kind. It has been a wonderful two weeks working with her everyday. Starting to feel a bit sad that tomorrow is the last day working with her for this time round. Hopefully next year we will work again =) The calendar starts from January again. Just got bits and pieces of ideas of things I want to achieve this year. Get a job and work hard for my goals, working on my blogshop, more crafting, more reading, piano lessons (finally I'm back in JB to do this), prepare my home office (which is already in the process and I'm so excited!), be more organized and productive...... ... ... and so many more! Must get some time to prepare for my complete new year resolutions!

One thing that is always on my list ---> is to blog more! ^_^

Don't forget to follow this blog and my twitter account!

Happy New Year to all of you! Wishing you a prosperous year ahead and May God richly bless you!

Signing off. xoxo

Studying Pharmacy in Monash University Malaysia

*This article was last updated on 1st March 2016

Good afternoon everybody!

As I was having breakfast yesterday, somebody asked me about the pathway to enter a Pharmacy course in Malaysia. As you all may or may not know, I'm a pharmacy student and I have just graduated from the 4 year Pharmacy degree course. Thank God for His guidance and blessings, couldn't have done this without the strength and faith that He has given me throughout this 4 years. I'm now waiting for the notification from the government to decide when and where I'll start my training program in a local public hospital for a year. Finger-crossed I'll be placed in a hospital near to my house *haha*

I'm writing this as I'm often being asked about how do you enter a medical/dentistry/pharmacy course in Malaysia, which university that are offering a pharmacy course, what is the fee structures, how about the career prospect etc. every year without fail, especially from my relatives and friends. So, I thought I should just write a summary here based on my experience, if any of you are wondering the same questions too.

First, medical (MBBS), Dentistry and Pharmacy are 3 different courses and they have different requirements to be fulfilled, they specialize in different aspect of healthcare and there are different registration pathway to be taken after you completed the course in order for you to practice in Malaysia. Here, I'll go into details on the Pharmacy course and focus more on my personal experience.

After I've completed my SPM in 2007, I've got my results with 8A's 4B's (A1 in Chemistry/Additional Maths/Math, A2 in Physics and B4 in Biology). I went on and did the Cambridge GCE A-level in Sunway University College and I chose only 3 subjects (Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics) as I already decided that I wanted to do Pharmacy as my degree and the entry requirement to enter Monash University was 14 points (which means I should get a minimum of 2A and 1B). Thank God I've completed my A level with 14 points (A for Chemistry and Biology and B for Mathematics) and subsequently I've enrolled to Monash University Malaysia. At that point of time, my first choice of Pharmacy School was however, the National University of Singapore (NUS) as it is near to my house here in JB and majority of my friends are all studying in Singapore =/ Anyway, I'm glad that I made this decision to join Monash and it was indeed a fruitful and memorable experience! ^_^

1. I've just completed SPM, what shoud I do now?

Before you can enter a degree course, you should first complete a pre-university course as your foundation. Depending on the country and university you want to go, you may choose a pre-U course that is recognize by them. Different courses also differ slightly in their exam and coursework weightage, hence choose wisely so that you are comfortable with it. Some of the pre-university courses include:

- STPM
Local Malaysia pre-university foundation and gain access to local public universities based on your results and government placement.

- Cambridge GCE A-Level
Most widely recognized pre-university qualification in the world. 100% exam-based. Duration of course is 1.5 years.

- Monash University Foundation Year (MUFY)
Foundation year offers by the Monash University, available in Sunway University College. Coursework and exam based. Recognized by Australian University and some of the local Private universities. Duration of course is 9-10 months.

- Australian Matriculation Programme (Ausmat)
Widely accepted by universities in Australia, New Zealand, UK, US, Canada, Russia, Germany, Singapore and some private universities in Malaysia. 50% school-based 50% examination.

- Canadian International Matriculation Programme (CIMP)

2. Which universities in Malaysia are offering Pharmacy degree course?

There is a difference between courses that are provisionally recognized by the Malaysian Qualification Agency (MQA) and courses which has been recognized by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia. Below is the link to the Pharmaceutical Services Divisions, Malaysia. More information is available there.

3. Which Pharmacy degrees are recognized by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia?

If you wish to study abroad after completed your pre-U, these are the universities that have been recognized by the Pharmacy Board of Malaysia which means you can register as a Provisionally Registered Pharmacist (PRP) to undergo training for one year at local/private institutions in Malaysia upon completion of your degree course.

4. What do you study in Pharmacy degree course?

I'll share what I've studied in Monash Malaysia here. Basically there are four areas of study which are:-

- Enabling knowledge baseIncludes physical, organic and medicinal chemistry, physiology, biochemistry, microbiology, molecular biology and immunology.

- Drug deliveryDeals with the formulation of medicines, pharmacokinetics (what happens to medicine in the body) and the different dose-forms used in therapeutics.

- Integrated therapeuticsCovers the major disease states and their epidemiology, pathophysiology and diagnosis, the chemistry and pharmacology of medicines used to treat these conditions, and the clinical and practice aspects of treating patients.

- Pharmacy practiceExplores the role of the pharmacist, professionalism, dispensing, health and the individual, as well as health care in society. Students also study pharmacoepidemiology, the psychosocial aspects of medicine treatment, communicative skills, patient counselling, and legal aspects of practice.

The syllabus here in Malaysia followed closely to what is being offered in the Australia campus. Occasionally, we also do get lecturers from Australia to come over to the Malaysia campus. Our coursework, assignments, in-semester test, final examinations are the same as what is being given in the Australia campus. My favorite will go to Integrated Therapeutics and Pharmacy Practice. It gives you an overview on how to manage a disease and more importantly how to manage a patient as a whole. It is very much related to real life practice and it helps to build up critical thinking skill, presentation skill, communication skill in addition to the fundamental knowledge in medicines.

5. What units do you study in Pharmacy degree course?

First year

Semester one

  • PAC1111 Introduction to physiology
  • PAC1121 Bioorganic and medicinal chemistry I
  • PAC1211 Physicochemical basis of pharmacy
  • PAC1311 Pharmacy, health and society I

Semester two

  • PAC1132 Systems physiology

6. Do you do internship during the pharmacy course?

In my university, we do the Professional Experience Placement Program which we are required to go for placement in 3 different settings : hospital pharmacy, community pharmacy and rural pharmacy (Klinik Kesihatan) throughout our last 2 years of study. Each placement will last for 3 weeks and there is a total of 4 placements to 2 hospitals, 1 retail pharmacy and 1 Klinik Kesihatan. This is where you observe a real life pharmacy practice and get to know how a pharmacy operates. It gives you an overview of the career prospects of a pharmacist and prepares you to choose your career pathway upon graduation. I did my placements in Hospital Sultanah Aminah Johor Bahru, Gleneagles Hospital Kuala Lumpur, Vitacare The Gardens and Klinik Kesihatan Kelana Jaya.

7. Upon graduation, where can I go for training and be registered as a Provisionally Registered Pharmacist in Malaysia?
